The Hero's Journey is accurately mirrored in Elizabeth : The Golden Age (2007), played by Cate Blanchett.
Examples:
Elizabeth 's Inner Challenge is her virginity, which is demonstrated by her obsession with virginity and which is ultimately overcome through the holding of Sir Walter Raleigh's (Clive Owen's) baby.
Her Outer Challenge is her battle with Mary Stuart and her Greater Antagonism is the battle with the King of Spain and the Spanish Armada. Her Romantic Challenge is of course, Sir Walter Raleigh.
The Hero here fits the archetype:
Elizabeth has an extraordinary capacity for survival.
Elizabeth is royalty, descended from a powerful and gifted ancestry, as is Luke Skywalker (son of a powerful Jedi) or Harry Potter (son of powerful and gifted wizards)…
Elizabeth is isolated, separate and distinct from the World of Others: she is a queen and must distance herself, but Luke Skywalker is also isolated and separate and distinct from the life that Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru imagine for him and Harry Potter is isolated and separate and distinct from his adopted family, the Dursleys.
The Hero here has an arch rival in the Ordinary World: Elizabeth has Mary Stuart, Luke has Biggs and Harry Potter has the Dursley's son, Dudley. It is the Hero's change relative to this rival that demonstrates his or her evolution and transformation: Elizabeth has to sentence Mary Stuart to death, Harry overcomes Dudley through his new grasp of magic and Luke Skywalker surpasses Biggs to lead the attack against the Death Star.
